The Young Champions Movement
Skills for Life Program is based on the evaluation and
development of
12 basic movement skills.
Movement
skills, sometimes referred to as “motor skills”, serve
as the foundation for physical education, fitness, and
sport development. The 12 skills chosen for the Movement
Skills for Life Program were selected because they are
the movements that all of fitness and sport are built
upon.
The other movement skills are built upon the
foundation laid by the acquisition of these 12 skills.
The ability to move properly is vital in order to truly
appreciate physical education and fitness.
Our mission
is to assist in laying this foundation in order that
individuals may live a more confident, active lifestyle.
“Where fear lives, faith and confidence are absent.”
When a child is fearful of failure, they are less likely
to participate. Academics and Activity are no different
in this regard.
“As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.”
What is unique about the Movement Skills for Life
Program?
Let’s begin with the Evaluation Process. One of the
areas of childhood development that has been missing is
the lack of a recognized form of standard evaluation in
physical realm.
“Perhaps the most urgently needed tool that has not
been developed is a standardized assessment of student
performance in physical education.”
U.S. Surgeon General (2000)
There have been good forms of evaluation – but none have
addressed the foundational area of Movement Skill
development. Analysis has been subjective and has been
solely based on the instructor’s observation. Young
Champions method of assessment is based on the following
parameters.
1. A certified evaluator and instructor
2. The successful completion of an objective drill or
series of tasks.
3. A four level system of evaluation that is based on
science and how we live.
Standardized Evaluation
“Perhaps the most urgently needed tool that has not
yet been developed is a standardized assessment of
student performance in physical education.”
U.S. Surgeon General’s Report (2000)
Standardized testing can best be described as performing
the physical test and evaluations the same way, using
the same methods, everywhere. Standardized testing and
evaluation will allow us to compare to much larger
population groups, such as is typical in most of
academia. The result should be better programs and
better methods for our children and students.
Young Champions has developed a statistical database for
Movement skill evaluation. This profile is a part of a
web site called Sportskills.com.
In order to submit you
student or child’s results the following criteria must
be followed:
1. The evaluation must be performed by a certified Young
Champions Movement Skill expert in your area.
2. The data must be entered by a certified Young
Champions Movement Skill expert. This insures the data
to be reliable and accurate for those who access
information from the Sportskills.com site.
3. The evaluation can be performed by hosting a Young
Champions Movement Skills Mini-Camp or Clinic if there
is no certified expert in your area yet.
4. Young Champions can certify an individual in your
area.
Young Champions Program Development
Once evaluation and assessments have been formed we are
ready to give you a diagnosis of your particular
student. This will lead to formulation of a program in
order to equip the student with the necessary strategy
to advance from one level of development to the next.
The YC Movement Skill for Life programs are based on
data and the research of experts in Movement Skill
development from around the world. We utilize the latest
in technology in order to assess students and equip
parents and educators with tools that will allow them to
assist in the developmental process of their own
children and students.
